How we are dealing with the highway issues at the site

We are aware of the traffic concerns surrounding the A46 corridor, junction 9 of the M5, and local roads and lanes.
We are committed to developing our plans in the least harmful way, providing benefits to local communities where possible.
Our current thinking
We have developed a movement strategy which prioritises active and sustainable travel principles:
- A new central street, to provide access to the new community, but which directs traffic away from the most congested parts of the A46.
- Improved connection across the railway line, fit for purpose.
- Improvement to the Aston Cross / A46 junction to improve traffic flow.
Targeted improvements at key junctions, such as Tewkesbury Road, The Park and in Northway - Improvements to junctions and signal timings on the A46 corridor.
Our approach
We will ensure that:
- Traffic levels are minimised by providing key facilities on-site for the whole community
- Attractive travel alternatives are provided to encourage sustainable movement
- Improvements are brought forward that manage traffic levels
Larger, well-planned, and coordinated projects such as at North Ashchurch have a lower overall impact than multiple small developments.
What are we doing?
We are working hard to ensure we understand the important issues and carefully assess the potential impacts of the proposals.
We are working with local people and local professionals in addition to National Highways and local Highway Authorities, to collect important local data on congestion and safety.
We are conducting detailed assessments to understand and model the potential impacts of the North Ashchurch project. This will inform what mitigation and improvements are possible and deliverable.
